Most people come across creatine in a gym, where the evidence for strength and lean mass has been settled for decades. Professor Ostojic’s programme sits somewhere else. His human trials look at brain energy, cognition, telomere length and healthy ageing in older people.
One analysis he worked on covered more than 120,000 people and examined the relationship between dietary creatine intake and biomarkers of ageing.
Creatine is not a stimulant and it is not a hormone. It is part of how a cell pays for work. Cells spend an energy currency called ATP, and creatine is what lets them refill it fast, so the tissues that work in sudden bursts rely on it most. Muscle holds the biggest store, which is why the gym found it first.
The brain runs on the same currency. It is roughly two per cent of body weight and takes over twenty per cent of resting energy use, and it holds its own creatine pool. That is the reason the research question widened from performance to cognition, and from athletes to older adults.
What the evidence supports today. Creatine monohydrate is well established for strength, power and lean mass. Its role in cognition and healthy ageing is an active research question, and that is exactly what Professor Ostojic’s trials are built to answer.

A researcher can only run a trial on something he can measure exactly. Creatine monohydrate at a stated purity, tested by somebody who did not make it, is what makes the trials above it possible.
